Fire Extinguishers

Portable Fire Fighting Equipment

Extinguishers at an incident

Fire extinguishers are used at incidents to provide fire coverage, suppress hazards and cover spills in an easy to carry container. The main size carried on appliances will be the 9 litre, pressurised type.

In the case of a Road Crash incident, a Dry Chemical Powder (DCP) and a Foam extinguisher will be taken from the appliance and placed near the vehicles in case of fire. A side line from the appliance will also be deployed and held by a firefighter during the operation of making the scene safe.

With small structure fires, a Foam or Carbon Dioxide (CO2) extinguisher may be taken inside to extinguish small fires
