Raising awareness of the roles, training and activities of CFS Volunteers state-wide

Joining The SA Country Fire Service

The first step to becoming a CFS Volunteer is to choose the brigade to join. Because of the emergency nature of the CFS, you generally need to live or work nearby the fire station. Some brigades have specific time limits on how far away you can be from the station. You will need to check with the individual brigades on their requirements.

There are some brigades that do not require an immediate response to an incident, where living or working nearby is not a requirement of membership. These brigades include the Mt Lofty Fire Tower brigade, State, Regional and Group Operations and Support brigades.

Once you have selected the brigade you are interested in, follow the information listed on this website contact them, or attend at a training night.

Be aware that a number of brigades (particularly those on the urban fringe of Adelaide) are full, and are not able to accept new members at this time. Other brigades have an intake system at certain times of the year, so you may not be able to sign up straight away.

To find your nearest CFS station, enter either your post code or your suburb, and we'll locate all of the services we have in our database for you.
