On Sunday night - International Firefighters day - we headed to Nuriootpa for a special event - the official launch of the South Australian Country Fire Service Australian Fire Service Medal Association.

The Association was formally established in December 2023 by CFS recipients of the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) - which has been awarded since 1988, with 120 CFS personnel (volunteers & staff) being awarded the medal.

The Association has the motto Giving Back - making the Association much more than a social group.

The Association has 8 objectives, some of which include:

Supporting the personal development of volunteers in which strong leadership potential is recognised by peers and senior staff.

Encouraging the pursuit of excellence in emergency service delivery by individual CFS Volunteers, Staff Members, Brigades, Groups, and functional teams.

Supporting research with the objective of improving health and safety of Volunteer firefighters.

Supporting volunteer-based organisations within CFS, including the CFS Foundation Inc, Volunteer Firefighters Museum, Inc, and CFS Volunteer Association.

The South Australian Governer, Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, agreed to be the Patron for the Assocation and joined the Association at the launch dinner on Sunday.

Thank you to the Association for the invitation - and photos will be available soon!
