Requirements for membership

To join the CFS as a firefighter, you need to be aged 16 years or over. There is no upper age limit. Many brigades accept cadets (aged between 11-16 yrs). However not all brigades accept cadets, so you will need to check with the individual brigade.

Before signing up, you will need to undertake a Police check. The CFS will provide you with the appropriate forms. This check is done at no cost to you. The result of the check is confidential, and the brigade Captain only informed if there are serious criminal convictions. (Minor criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude a person from membership of the CFS)

You do not need to be an Australian Citizen to join the CFS
