The Promotions Unit are very excited to share a new photo collection with you.

Last week, were were given a large number of photos, part of the Betteridge / Jarman Collection.

Back in February 1983, just after Ash Wednesday, workmates Richard Betteridge and Peter Jarman, wanted to find a way to help raise funds for CFS brigades who had lost equipment during the Ash Wednesday fires of February 1983. They thought doing a history of the CFS was a way of achieving this.

They approached the CFS Chief, Loyd Johns, with the idea. Lloyd Johns was supportive of the idea, and provided a list of the names of brigade secretaries, and a letter of Introduction.

Over the next 12-13 years, the two spent time writing to brigades, obtaining historical information, as well as time at CFS HQ, trawling through records, identifying establishment dates of brigades, dates of brigade deregistration, and information on appliances. They also made appointments with brigades to attend at their stations, and take photographs of appliances and stations, as well as collecting photographs from some of those they visited.

Richard Betteridge later moved interstate, and Peter Jarman continued collecting photographs and information until the late 2000s.

The photo collection has been given to us, and we are in the process of scanning all of the photographs, and adding many of the appliance photographs (and associated information) to the Historical Appliance section of our website.

We will also be sharing these photos to this page.

Thank you Richard and Peter for this collection, and the opportunity for us to share your collection
