Remembering History - Cherry Gardens Fire - 2021

We often think of history as something really old - something old people reminisce about from a long time ago.

But what happened last week, or yesterday or this morning is now history!

Here at the Promotions Unit, we have an extensive photo collection that were taken by us - right back to the mid 1990s.

We have also been lucky enough to have been given some fabulous photo collections much older than the mid 1990s - some of which we have been able to share with you.

Looking through our photo collection, we thought we might share some of our more recent history with you.

So, on this day, back in January 2021, a fire known as the Cherry Gardens fire started and was on its way to burning through over 2100 hectares of land, destroying two houses and numerous out buildings, multiple native animals and native scrub.

Fire behaviour was at times erratic and posed extra challenges to crews working on the fire.
