Using the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS)

An example of Sectors

A Sector is usually an area of the incident which can be managed from a point of control, either geographically or by the number of resources on the ground.

If the incident begins to require more resources, then the Incident Controller will select a Sector Commander to establish control over the resources as per the Span of Control, and a Second Sector Commander may also be required to divide the incident into two manageable areas.

Sector Commanders then report directly to the Incident Controller and look after their resources as directed. If the incident becomes larger, more Sectors can be created.
