Using the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS)

A Division will be created at an incident if the number of Sectors become hard to manage by the Incident Controller. The Division Commander will then report directly to Incident Controller and liaise with the Sector Commanders.

The example shown below, due to the resources deployed has been split into four manageable Sectors, under the control of one Divisional Commander.
