Submitted By Pip McGowan

A Memorial Service was held at Mt Lofty Summit for CFS Firefighters killed in the service of their community, and to remember the Fires of Ash Wednesday, February 16th 1983. The service was held at 3.30 p.m. - the time the fire swept through Mt Lofty. During the service, 12 firefighters climbed the Mt Lofty Fire Tower, representing the 12 firefighters who have died. A lone piper played a lament from the top of the Tower. A Gerber was laid at the memorial for each firefighter. The service was organised by the Mt Lofty Tower Brigade.
