Portable Automatic Weather Station

Monitoring the Weather

A Portable Automatic Weather Station (Paws) is a trailer mounted, self contained automatic weather monitoring station, which directly connects to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and provides real time data on the conditions of a selected area.

These PAWS units are taken to a location predetermined by the Operations Section of an incident, or by BOM to provide planning data for prescribed burns or severe weather information.
